District Witnesses Growth
During the decades of the 40’s and 50’s, the Lincoln District experienced continued growth. The baby boomer generation began to arrive at Lincoln and additional facilities were needed.
In 1951, a two-story addition was added to the original building providing a larger cafeteria and additional elementary classrooms. The first separate facility was opened in 1956 as additional elementary space was required. The current Lincoln High School was opened in 1962 on land west of the original campus.
In 1969, Lincoln received the Bessie Hoffman School and additional students from the former Sumpter School District. This building would become Bessie Hoffman Lincoln Junior High for several years.
The partnership that Lincoln and Eastern Michigan University first entered in 1922 came mutually agreed to ending beginning in 1967 with separation in 1973. The University felt its mission of overseeing the concept of producing an exceptional educational experience to the public had been achieved and the leaders of the Lincoln District felt it was time for more local control of its operations.
Although the formal partnership has ended, student teachers from Eastern Michigan University continue to learn their craft at Lincoln, as well as, students from other Universities.
