School-University Cooperation & Celebration

Throughout the decades of the 30’s and 40’s, Lincoln continued to receive national recognition due to its affiliation with Eastern Michigan University.  Visits were made by State and Federal education professionals to observe rural education in action.

One prominent visitor was seen on our campus multiple times.  Henry Ford on numerous occasions stopped by and even arranged entertainment for a concert that was held in Lincoln’s gymnasium in 1937.

As Lincoln was a laboratory school under the leadership of Eastern Michigan University, student teachers were a prominent sight in many classrooms of all grades.  College students would ride the Eastern shuttle bus to and from campus as they completed their educational requirements.

Over the decades, Lincoln has hosted many thousands of Eastern students and as these educators spread across the country, we can take pride in the fact that the first step in their career began at Lincoln.

The Lincoln School District celebrated its 25th anniversary on November 19 and 20, 1949.  A community pageant was presented depicting the history of the district.  An exhibit of pictures and other materials were on display.  The Saturday event concluded with a social hour of music and dancing.

But the highlight of Saturday’s agenda was the keynote address by Dr. Marvin Pittman as he returned to our campus.  He thanked the community for continuing its commitment to the young people of the community.

The program continued Sunday, November 20th with an address by Dr. Henry Tape, Lincoln’s first principal.  He had the task of assembling the first faculty and personnel.
